Same reason there's a lot of theists are here. Religion is an interesting topic that is very personal to many individuals.
For what it is worth, there are several athiest religions. There's Buddhism, Humanism, Church of the Virus, etc.
I'm an atheist and I hang out on this topic because I love to debate. Also, I am a skeptic. I am always questioning my beliefs (or lack of beliefs). Maybe someone will post a question or answer that will make me think a little.

Religion category = a beleif category..in other words...a category about different views about religion.
I beleive, on the other hand, that many people who do not beleive in God is because the topic about God's will and about our free will does not make any sense to them. Almost every religion has a different point of view. Some do not beleive in man's (both men and women) free will and some do. Some beleive that God's will is an "event" and some beleive that His will is what is taught in the Bible.
A little research about every religion is best way to have a final decision in what our final beleif should be.
I beleive that the Orthodoxy's explanation about God's will and about man's free will is the best.

Religion is a part of our culture whether or not we believe in a God. Most intelligent people like to discuss, debate, and learn. I discuss and am interested in many things that I am not a part of. History, other cultures, Greek mythology. While I understand that there are a few who claim to be atheist on here posting ridiculous questions and answering things by being rude, there are also Christians on here that do the same thing. Ignore them and move on, report them if they are obscene.
Why ask a question if you only want people to repeat what you believe. If I ask a question based on opinion, I am actually hoping to get many different views of something by people with different beliefs and backgrounds. Otherwise it can get rather boring.
My beliefs won't be changed by a discussion or debate, I am strong in what I believe, I am also not out to change any ones beliefs. But discussion and debate are healthy forms of learning.

You have a problem with Atheists making posts concerning religion? Just because they are different than you does not mean they are not allowed to have an opinion on things. I've noticed some of them answer and reply to posts better than those in the same religion as the one who posted the question. You're question is like why is a Druid (me) answering a question about Atheists. And honestly, the answer is very simple, because I can, and the freedom of press and speach allows me to speak and write my own opinion on such topics.

I'm agnostic, I just answer questions as they come up. The dumber the question, the more I like to answer. This section just seems to have the dumbest questions in it. I like how so many so called Christians will ask questions about their own faith, but have never read the Bible from front to back. How can you call your self a Christian and not know the book of which your faith is derived from, makes absolutely no sense. I don't believe and even I have read the thing a couple of times, that is partly why I am agnostic. Maybe they are afraid that they will find too many flaws in it like I did.

I think that because a lot of people are fighting over religion and God sad but true. The majority of people are deciding to not believe in a God at all. Then giving them nothing to argue about. A lot of them think that if there was a God the wars would not be happening.
I am not an atheist. I do believe in God. He/She sits back disgusted over what we are doing to ourselves. He/She gave us FREE WILL and this is what we are doing with it. Bloody fighting.

Because for some reason Atheism is classified as a religion even though they don't believe in organized religion. I think it is that way because Atheists have their own beliefs too even if they aren't religious ones.

Some of them secretly yearn for what we have: a family relationship with our Creator. It's only a problem of ignorance - a lack of knowledge... Personal knowledge... After all, it is written: "And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." Light dispels darkness, NOT the other way around...
They just don't understand, but at least some of them are trying...! I think they're mostly curious.
Only God can let them understand...

We're hopeful we can talk some sense into you blind sheep.
Seriously though, what's the good of having a religious debate without having the "devil's advocate" that is on the opposite side of the fence? I think it adds serious substance to have a debate with opposite viewpoints. You don't see any satanist posting here do you?
