All jokes aside from this topic.....

I am currently in the USAF. Though my carrer has been good the AF is making cuts. I am supposed to reenlist next year but the AF is cutting 2,974 SSgts next year by not letting us reenlist.

I am going through the process right now of switching from AF to Army. I mean all I really have left to do is sign my contract. Well my wife just told me tonight the she is starting to second guess it because of the fact I want to go into Military Police (job I have wanted to do since I was little) and she is afraid that I will get hurt in the desert. (Dont get this wrong I have been to Iraq on convoys but for the most part the AF is safer). I can honestly say I hate my job. I feel I didnt join the military so I can just call the commander cause a 4 star is coming to visit. The AF soon will also be going to 1 year deployments for all. Promotion rate is easier in the Army.

Do you think I am wrong for wanting to do this.

Let me also point out that I have 3 small children. I just feel that it would be best for the whole family plus today I told my kids about it and right now they could care less about my job but when I told them I was going to be a cop there face just lit up and they couldnt stop talking about it. I know the kids are to young to understand everything behind it but it seems the wife is the only one going back and forth on this decision....

I mean its basically already set in stone and I will have to go through with it but I just hate that she is telling me this now cause I have a guilt trip following me.

I have to agree with you. Hating your job is the quickest way to an ulcer and/or an early death.
She needs to understand your desire and make peace with it.
(especially if you were military before you met)

I let my first wife get to me and it ruined my career. While I have a good woman and a beautiful son now, I still miss the army.

I wouldn't be so quick to abandon your Air Force career. The Army is no faster promoting than the Navy or Marine Corps. All
services have a billeting system. In you case the Air Force only
has so many billets, positions, for Staff Sergeant. If there is too many currentlly enlisted then the AF has three options: Promote,
Refuse Re-enlistment, or Discharge. It is the same in all branches of the military.

Take it from a retired, opinionated, Marine Corps Gunnery Seargent. The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. Best of luck to you!

Don't join the Army, I've always hear of many people going Green to Blue, not so much the other way around. Security forces are generally in pretty good shape. In fact of the small number of Air Force people killed in combat overseas, I've heard of nobody getting killed while performing security forces detail. If you are interested in spending more time with family, the Air Force Reserve is the way to go. I also seems easier to get promoted in the Reserves than it is to get promoted in Active Duty.

Go for it. You already have a military career and I'm sure your wife realizes there are risks. This is something you've always wanted to do and it's my opinion when it comes to your military career you make the decisions, and your family should accept and support it.

Jake that comment wasn't necessary.

If that is what you want to do then go for it. Explain to your wife that somebody will have to do it so why not you. I have been in the Army for 9 years. Nothing hardcore, I am in the Signal Corps.

You better do it or your son will always remember you for the coward you are. If you want to fight for and stand by your country, think what that means. If you let your wife tell you what to do, you might as well go out and dig your grave. If I were big enough, I'd dig it for you and put you in it.

I think that you should do it. If your wife really loves you she will understand that you are not only doing this for yourself but also for your family. Additionally, MP may lead to bigger and better opportunities when you decide to leave the service. Thank you for helping to protect our country :)

Nope - I don't think you are wrong at all.

And MP is one of the best jobs in the Army.
