i wanna know if i should invest in a bluray player or not

Blu-ray is a relatively new technology, and very expensive. So it may become more popular in time, but unless the price drops dramatically (not impossible, but unlikely), DVDs will maintain their dominance on the market.

Also, unless you have an HD-TV, or are planning on purchasing one, there is no point in spending so much money on such a device.

No, I don't think so. They're too expensive still, and without the obvious advantages that made DVDs better than VHS so quickly. Although there are of course differences, I think most people are gonna look at it and say, "So what? It's just a more expensive DVD." And it won't really catch on until they stop making DVDs and we have no choice.

its like Beta back in the day, its way better quality, but Sony (who invented beta) has the patent and a monopoly on blu-ray so i think it will crash
