Hi Becky,
I spend alot of time working with pet rescues. Before you do anything like this, you will want to do alot of research. If not done correctly you will end up with people from everywhere dropping cats off. You need to check out zoning for keeping more than 3 cats, need to establish yourself as a non-profit rescue, etc. Alot of work. I suggest you work with an established shelter first. You will help them tremendously and learn at the same time. You may find out it is more work then you initially thought.

Well, depending on where you live, first you need to find some land for sale and buy it. Then build what you think would be the proper home for yourself and get tips from a vet on how to safely and healthily care for masses of cats without endangering yourself and your neighbors, if there are any. Then, you need to ask the humane society in your area what the limit per person the amount of cats you can have legally. Then, build your house/shelter, and afterward, you can get discounts on vet visits because you are a real repeat customer. Then, you can live in peace with all of your cats, or you can expand and start your own chapter of the Humane Society, or the Animal Rescue Leagues.
Good Luck to you, and have a great" Meow "day.

i agree with petsitter joy ..living out in the country my folks rescued animals dosmetic and wild it takes a lot of patience care love its expensive and some times you have to deal with the previous owners saying they want there pet back after they beat and neglected them(needless to say they werent given back) call your local pet shelter and the humane society a good way too start is to volunteer at these places or the vets. bringing in a rescued pet is heartbreaking just to see these noble creatures neglected or shot from a careless hunter leaving a deer left to die or a fawn stumbling around cause there mom was killed by a car the joy is to know you helped it then found a home or kept it but also theres heart break sometimes it didnt make it but in your heart you know they knew you tried good luck and god bless there should be more people like you out there

Talk to you veterinarian, humane associatin or other cat coalition/animal treatment centers in your area. I agree, there are way too many people who mistreat animals. Volunteer for an animal care agency so when you are ready, you will know who to contact to get started and what to do. Good Luck and I wish you all the best

Contact Maddiesfund.org or Bestfriends.org. Best Friends has seminars all the time for people wanting to establish sanctuaries. Maddie's Fund can provide financial support and you have to submit a plan to them.
Either organisation will have some information for you about establishing a sanctuary.

Before you get this started, find out about the zoning restrictions where you plan to set up. I have heard of a number of no kill shelters that have had trouble with neighbors. Make sure the law is on your side.
Good luck.

First, you may desire to ascertain with your interior of reach zoning board to verify what the standards are for conserving animals, and for working a corporation (even a non-income one). they won't enable a commercial corporation in a residential section, working example, or they might limit the form of animals you may shop on your private homestead. then you definitely would desire to ascertain with your municipality approximately corporation licenses, and in case you like one in case you're working a non-income. Then, touch your insurance agent, and a solid attorney. you may desire to have legal accountability insurance, and you may desire to contain your corporation to guard your very own components - if a dogs or cat on your care injures somebody, you do no longer want a lawsuit to do away with your place. yet another expert you will need is a solid e book keeper. you may desire to account for each penny your acquire, and each penny you spend, for tax-exempt status. then you definitely would desire to discover economic backers - nutrition and vet look after those animals isn't inexpensive. and you may desire to demonstrate screen ability foster families which will shop the canines and cats you at the instant can not homestead (no person has sufficient room for each and all of the animals that would desire to be rescued). then you definitely would desire to verify what animals you will take (All canines and cats? in basic terms specific breeds? in basic terms older, hard to undertake animals?) then you definitely would desire to get the be conscious out, and to make friends with any interior of reach animals shelters, so that they are able to deliver animals your way (in the event that they are legally allowed to do this). finally, you may desire to get an mind-blowing form of exposure, so human beings will comprehend to come again to you to undertake a dogs or cat.
