It's not any worse than in 1929, or 1939 or 1945 or 1964...quit letting the media rule your emotions.

It all goes back to the imperialism of the nineteenth century, when Europe and America believed that ugly Social Darwinism and started to conquer in order to become wealthy, spread Christianity, and of course bring "civilization" to Africa and Asia. World War I, which I consider to be merely the first phase of the "Great World War", was fought mainly because the competition between the imperialist countries had become too great. What's worse is that the people these nations enslaved were dragged into the fighting, not really understanding why and growing resentful.

After the war (after Germany got screwed over by the Allies), Britain and France received mandates over areas in the Middle East that had been promised their freedom after the war. Britain, in particular, took control of Iraq and Palestine. Arab resentment boiled over, and a movement called Pan-Arabism took hold.

Jews had been trying to get back to Palestine since the previous century, but in the 1930s, Jews began leaving Europe en masse, and while some escaped to the United States, most were headed for Palestine. This only added to Arab hate and British troubles.

The second phase of the Great World War, from 1939 to 1945, was the most terrible yet, as yet unmatched for its sheer brutality. I don't have to go into details here. Just know that after the war, imperialist empires began to vanish. Only the British Empire has managed to hang on to some of its possessions.

Most of the nations who gained their independence in the decades following the war are now part of the Third World. They were not taught by the imperialists how to properly manage their own governments and economies, and now they are among the poorest in the world. The damage Europeans and Americans wrought on these people has never been forgotten.

Terrorism arose because some of these nations contain people who resent the West for what it did and what it is still doing. Imperialism still exists, but now it is in the form of multinational corporations that take advantage of a country and keep most of the profits. The people are just as poor as ever.

I don't agree with terrorism, but I can see why they do what they do. The West has made terrible mistakes in the past, and we need to account for them. Have we formally apologized to the peoples we oppress(ed)? I don't think so.

The only way to curb terrorism is to right our wrongs and help these countries out of the mess we sunk them in. Cancel debts they can never hope to pay, give them fresh food and water, anything to help.

After all, they're human beings too, aren't they?

The Great World War begun in 1914 is still going on today. In the third phase, the United States and the Soviet Union pitted former colonies against one another. We are now in the fourth phase, begun on September 11th, 2001. The way things are going, there's likely to be a fifth.

It is not any worse than it has been before. It is not worse now than during Vietnam, WWII, Korea, WWI The Great Depression. It seems like most people your sense of history starts the day you were born. Your idea is good, but a mantra will not help unless you live your life that way. I wish you well with this endeavor.

It makes me feel depressed, personally. Even though my life isn't that bad, I feel really bad for all of the people with problems suffering around the world. I worry about Islamofascism. I worry about communism and what the liberals are trying to do to our country. I am afraid to speak my mind in public because the liberals will hate me if I say something they don't agree with. I get frustrated with ignorant stubborn conservatives who won't vote for Republicans because the disagree on one issue, but they miss the point because the Republicans are the only real American party we have. All the Democrats want is to kill the babies, dismantle our military, and destroy the natural family structure. I worry about the resurgence of racism in our country, while at the same time, I can't tell whether the Middle Eastern people in my community are here for the American dream of to destroy us. I get frustrated with immoral people who don't realize that their behavior is the main reason that Muslims hate the U.S. Also, I don't know what to think about immigration because I enjoy and appreciate Latino culture, but I still believe people should come to this country legally. I don't discuss the subject with my Hispanic-American friends because I don't want to hurt their feelings.

I want to teach my children to grow up in a world of adventure. Living life to the fullest. Not to be hampered by believing in fairy tales or in front of the tube of A.C. or heat. True I will be there when in need of shelter water, etc. But I am not gong to submit my children to believing that the world is awful cause of pollution, war and sin. I would rather see them rise above and be happy by participating in the global community or not.

its all our doing... we should have never meddled with the middle east then we would not have had any enemies just friends but now practically the whole world is against us...and don't even say Europe is not because they hate us as much as any other country...even mother England would love to bring us back in her control they just don't say it out loud because they (the whole world) is scared of us..which is not right..America is a great country and we have worked way too hard...people should respect us for all we have done not fear us for what we might do to them if they go against us.

To me it seems like I agree with what the other person said - It's the same as it always has been, it's just there's more ways to monitor it now. For example, rape has always existed it's just now we have "cracked down" on it more and researched statistics about it.

It makes me feel normal, I guess. I realize that there's always going to be crap in the world and around you, you just have to learn to accept it as part of what happens. Ying and Yang, man.

It's not that our world has gotten any worse... It's just that with computers and the information age, everyone's just that much more aware of everything... It only took 6 CHAPTERS into the Bible for God to be grieved in His heart over our corruption of His creation...! It makes me long for the new heaven and new earth mentioned at the end of the book of Revelation...! Hope to see you there...!
