While I cannot speak for men in Asian society, In America, the concepts of the Geisha do not exist in such a manner. Therefore, it is not required.

was the film title memoirs or diaries of a geisha? anyway, i definitely see some benefits in the relationship beyond the obvious. i can lay no claim to understanding the protocols involved in becoming "no.1" (ichi ban?), however. from the film, wealth seemed to be a great help if one aspired to that position based on usual standards. although, apparently, mere "love" could catapult one into that etheral realm, as well, finances being irrelevant.

Well I've never visited a geisha... and I know virtually nothing about them! Some otaku I am, aren't I supposed to be super obsessed with Japanese culture or something? Tch.
