If your dog is licking the hotspot, the bacteria in your dog's saliva can cause greater discomfort & prolong his or her healing time. Therefore, an "Elizabethan collar" may be necessary.

If the hotspot is caused by a skin condition such as mange, an antibiotic should be prescribed by your dog's vet.
