What is anti-semitism?

SpasticNate, when you are going to insult someone, the least you can do is SPELL correctly! I sincerely don't know what it means. That’s why I asked. YOU need to get a life.

It's okay to ask any question as long as it follows community guidelines, so don't pay any attention to answerers who are rude. People who are rude are very angry and want everybody else angry too--don't "bite" and ignore the remarks. People who want an education are not afraid to ask questions--keep asking!!! Here's the definition of anti-semitism:

Anti-Semitism (alternatively spelled antisemitism) is hostility toward or prejudice against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group, which can range from individual hatred to institutionalized, violent persecution.

The word semetic comes from the name of Noah's first born son, Shem (read about it in Genesis, chapters 6-9). All of the descendants of Shem are therefore "shemites". It is from these ancient words and ancient person of Shem, son of Noah that we get the word "shemetic" or "semetic." In the ancient world then "semetic" would have referred to anyone who was a descendant of Shem. But today the word "semetic" is used primarily in reference to those who are Jewish. Thus, today, anti-semitism is prejudicial hatred toward Jewish people.
