Many small breeds have problems with teeth and gums. You need to have their teeth cleaned at least every couple of years by a qualified dentist. There is also a rinse (they can swallow it) from the dentist to help keep the gums healthy between cleanings.
No amount of doggy treats or breath mints is going to help because the smell comes for DECAY of teeth and gums. You must care for your canines teeth the way you would yours.
However, feeding them raw bones also does an awesome job of keeping gums and teeth healthier, longer. Your dog cannot tell you when their teeth or gums hurt.
so be sure to keep a check on them FOR them;-) Have your vet check their teeth and gums. Mine always does during our yearly visits..
PS: not all dogs have bad breath, as not all humans do..None of my dogs have bad breath and I have 9 dogs...

Many dogs, especially small ones, have icky smelling breath! There are some things you can do about this. First I'd take your dog to the vet to make sure theres nothing wrong with his teeth or gums. Bad breath CAN be a sign of certain illnesses! If the vet says everythings okay, theres some things you can buy from the pet store to make it a little better. I reccomend brushing your dogs teeth. You can buy a special dog tooth brush or just use a SOFT bristled human-toothbrush. (A new one!) But never use human toothpaste! Only special toothpaste for dogs! If you dont want to brush your dogs teeth there are doggie breath mints you can buy too. I've seen ones called YipYaps that are good for small dogs, but I've never used them so I'm not sure how well they work. Oh, and the thing about all poms having bad breath? I don't think that's true it just depends on the dog.

It is true that there are products on the market which claim to diminish pet odour (especially stinky breath), the solution is really quite simple.
While I agree that a good teeth cleaning is in order, you might also consider changing the dog's food to a higher quality diet.
Although it may be more expensive, the benefits are numerous - cleaner teeth, healthier skin/coat, less staining around eyes/mouth/feet, and above all LESS STINK!
Added bonus? Because the food is better quality, your dog will be able to use it more efficiently, and eat less of it. This means LESS POOPS to clean up!
You might try Blue Buffalo, Nature's Recipe or Nutro Natural. They are all available at PetSmart and other stores near you.
Give it a shot - your dog deserves it (and so does your nose!).

Pomeranians tend to have poor dentalation. It is a fact that most poms start losing their teeth at 6 years old. But there are ways to help prevent it. Keeping your dog's teeth clean is very important as it prevents bad breath, loss of teeth, decay and plague. You can send them to the vets to have their teeth cleaned or avoid wet food, giving them slightly moistened dry dog food, chew toys and bones. Brushing it daily helps alot too. NOT all dogs have bad breath!

Obviously, dogs don't have the best breath, but it shouldn't be 'horrible'. How old is your dog? Bad breath can be a sign of internal problems. Also, it could be that your dog has a rotten tooth or one that has abcessed? Is his mouth tender? Does he have problem chewing his kibble or chewing on bones? If so, have him checked out by a vet, chances are he needs a tooth or two pulled. If no, bad breath can also be the first sign of other internal issues and you should speak to your vet to have him checked out.

Bad breath is a sign that the diet is bad or the teeth need to be cleaned.
Get your dog on a high quality food...
http://www.dogaware.com/dogfeeding.html#TopDry
and make sure you get him a dental if needed.
All dogs breath do not stink... their teeth need maintenance just as ours do. Also, poor nurition causes bad breath. If its truly unusually unbearable it can mean intestinal issues such as kidney or liver failure.

Well, all dogs have bad breath. But if you use a chew toy called greenies it will help solve that problem. You can get that at any pet store, or online at Dog.com.
Or, you can put he/she on a regular teeth cleaning schedule, you can get a toothbrush and doggy toothpaste at a pet store or online.

You can cure the bad breath using a product at the pet store that goes in your dogs water. It works great! Just ask about it at the pet store, I don't remember what it is called.

If your dog's breath is terribly troublesome or more bad than normal then you need to take him/her to have his/her teeth cleaned! Your vet can do this for a small fee and it is important to your dog's health!
