Yes, but you really want something that wasn't run over or into. The best roadkill is the animal that runs into the side of a vehicle and breaks it's neck. The part of the animal that absorbs the impact will be infused with tremendous amounts of blood, but that which is away from the point of impact is fine!

All of it can be eaten, it's just a matter of quality!

It depends on what it is and how it died. Don't eat birds that were knocked down and driven over - the bone splinters will be all over the meat, and can kill you. But if the bird was just knocked out by smashing into your windscreen, go for it. Deer etc. should be no problem in that regard, but you'd still have to do all the right things like gutting it etc. before it goes bad on you due to blood poisoning through burst internal organs. I've always thought why not eat road kill. It's dead, so might as well. But it depends a lot on the country you're in. I think in Europe you're not allowed to eat it, who knows why, whereas in Paraguay, they'll thank you for cleaning up the road.

if you hit a deer you have to report it. and as said before you can't eat all road kill it might not be allowed. When you hit a deer report it and ask if you can take it home. A man was arrested in Iowa for taking a deer he hit on the road.

I stayed at a ranch in Colorado, the cook had to come out and explain what the meal was and how to eat each evening.... out of all the ranches I've stayed at the food was awful.... my American companions then explained the concept of road kill, when we "stole" the ranch minibus and headed for the nearest town!
Each meal at the ranch after that was a guessing game as to what "road kill" would be served that night.....!

I read in the paper recently that someone has been eating it for years without any illness. I picked up a freshly killed deer once but fed it to my dog.

Yeah why not, The meat maybe badly brused which would make the meat very tough but other then that no proplem, remove all parts of the car which hit it first ie lights, glass, fender etc as this could cut your mouth or break teeth lol
