Yes, psychiatrists can listen, and then give you coping mechanisms for when you experience a stressful event..then they can follow up on you at a later date and see if these measures are effective for you..if not, they can try to give you a different mechanism..as a guide for better health and functioning in every day life, good luck :)

I've been going for quite awhile. Almost all are truly helpful. Psychiatrists are professionals which means they have plenty of knowledge on how to deal with all sorts of personal problems. You can open up with them on any personal issue. They will not reveal anything that is said between the both of you, since they have to keep everything 100% confidential, it's part of their code of ethics and also it will violate the privacy law. Also they make you feel comfortable so you don't feel awkward at anytime, even when you first meet them. Just relax and be yourself if you decide to go through with it. Look for a psychiatrist that has a good track record and has plenty of good references.

Yeah. I do. They listen to you and help you feel better. I prefer a psychiatrist over a counselor at school because at school everyone knows about you having problems. I really like the psychiatrist. Mine really listens and helps me feel better about all I'm going through. It does help and it can be awkward a little bit but overall it's a really good experience. I'm also 14 and I wish you luck in your problems.

It's totally cool if you actually like the doc. It can be ackward at first, but if you really need to vent they will let you without telling your parents anything. It is a good spout to let off anything that bugs you and no other person will have to know.
