Undergraduate is the studies leading to your first college or university degree, which you join after graduating from high school. An undergraduate degree is most often a BA (Bachelor in Arts) or a BS (Bachelor in Science). A Ph.D is literally a Doctor of Philosophy. It is the highest degree in most areas, and it is usually 6 to 8 years after a BA or a BS.

College degrees are:

Undergraduate = Bachelor's degree - 4 year program

Graduate program can be Masters degree or Doctorate degree.
Masters degree usually takes two more years where as Doctorate degree takes 4 or more years. Those are ON TOP OF 4 years for BS degrees.

PhD is a doctor of philosophy and is just one branch of doctorate degree. Others are Md - doctor of medicine. Ed - doctor of education, etc.

Many degrees, such as engineering, science, etc are considered doctor of philosophy.
