Nooooo!! Read the back of any food can or bag. The first 5 ingredients should be healthy and natural. If the ingredients list any type of "by product", run. Stay away from by products, glutons, meal, etc. Check out the Whole Dog Journal for the list of the best foods. Try "Eagle Pack", "Solid Gold", Wellness 5. Anything you can buy at a grocery store is no good. Go straight to the pet food store and ask the clerk to show you where the holistic foods are. Then read the back. It's the first 5 ingredients of any pet food that you should care about. The rest should be just vitamins. NOTE: Wellness Simple 5 is excellent for animals with allergies. Even better is to find a food with no wheat products in it. I believe Solid Gold carries a no wheat food.

Our dog has bad skin allergies and has responded really well to Purina's lamb and rice (dry) dog food. Oatmeal shampoo works really well for our dog's skin too. I think as a general rule that dry food is better for a dog that is overweight. However, if your dog is older, you might want to look at food blends that are specially formulated for senior dogs. There are certain nutrients that older dogs need that regular food won't provide. For hot spots, we've found that spray Benadryl and children's Benadryl pills work well. All in all, it sounds you're on the right track to taking care of Fido's itchy skin.

I would feed him Nuto senior. It is made for these kinds of skin problems and your dog really does need a food for senior dogs.
You should not be feeding canned food, it really is not good for their teeth, but you can mix in a litte with his kibble.
IAMS is not at all a good food, neither is science diet, sience diet is made with lots of crap and full of corn and othe fillers that can cause skin problems.. And it is over priced as well.
Give the nutro a try for a few months.. You can get it at petsmart and petco for about the same price as IAMS.
Nutro also has canned food so you can mix that with his kibble..

NO! Do not use IAMS. They promote testing on animals! Why would a company that promotes health and well-being experiment on animals??? I would suggest trying a lamb & rice or chicken and rice by Nutro instead. If you are going to feed your dog wet food, be sure to brush his teeth and get him to the vet for teeth cleaning as needed.

I agree with Petlover, even though pet food companies test on dogs/cat, Iams is the biggest offender with cruel treatment on the dogs they test. Don't buy Iams.
Find recipes on line that you can prepare at home for your pet, but with the skin condition you may want to seek the advice of vet first.

Well, lots of wet food is not good for animals. It can be bad for their teeth. If moist food is all he likes, crunch up some biscuits in his dish with the moist food or try one of those "Greenies" after dinner. You should also consult your vet. This way, you can make him dinner yourself.
