Any information or advice will be very helpful, I'm taking him to the vet, Monday morning.

The vet said it is ring worm. I'm not sure he is correct, but I will give the medicine and ointment he prescribed, and see if it clears up.

My dog had mange when he was a puppy. The vet gave him some ointment as well as a benzoyl peroxide bath we had to give him. It helped a lot on the mange spot. It healed within a week or so

Good Luck

Your vet should do some skin scraping (not painful) to confirm or rule out mange or other disorders. Just follow his instructions and be patient - skin issues don't clear up overnight, but with proper treatment your pup shuld be just fine.
Many times demodex erupts due to stress. You might want to review if there have been any major changes in pup's life or environment that, while to humans wouldn't be an issue, but to a little guy might be a real upset. If so, you can help him adjust and relax about the situation.

Demodex is different from Sarcoptic mange. They require two different treatments.
All dogs have the demodex mite, some are just prone to it getting out of control. A vet needs to decide on the treatment. It can be long and costly depending on how bad it is. A vet is the only option.

The vet will scrape the skin and test it for mange...some dachshunds are also prone to allergies that will affect their skin as well....just wait until you see what the vet says.
