i live in NJ and i know that for 1 child day care from 7 in the morning till 6 pm 5 days a week each month it can be $600. a babysitter will usually do it by $3 an hour so 5 days a week 8 hrs a day, thats $120 a week, its cheaper to go with the daycare but safer with the babysitter

I pay $90 a week for in-home care for my son who is 3. Daycare centers want sometimes double that. If you can, find an in-home provider who is also Head Start certified to teach the kids in her home. Make sure she has a set cirriculum for the kids to learn by each day (ie. science on Monday, math on Tuesday, art on Wednesday, etc.). In-home providers can give a lot more one-on-one with the kids. If the provider does not provide a learning environment for the kids, and just sits them in front of the TV all day, I would definitely look elsewhere. Also, make sure that wherever you take her, they will let you show up at any time, unannounced, to see what they are doing. Hope this helps!

I live in California and it used to cost me $145 a week for my 18 month-old in 2001. I recently asked about the cost of daycare now for a 1-year-old and I was quoted $165 a week.

I live in Indiana, and for regular daycare it is about $130-$140 a week. I know there are some home-based daycares that are probably cheaper, but make sure you check references. Good luck, I know it's a pain to find good care.

In ohio it's 140 a week I think that's normal everywhere. Now that's daycare prices home babysitters shouldn't charge that much.

Ask friends and family what they pay for childcare. Also, call around to local centers to find out their rates. From that you can determine the average cost of childcare in your area.
