Weird question I guess but I need to know for a project I'm doing. Could it be the vegetable group? I feel totally stupid for not knowing this.

Olive oil is in the Fat/Oils section (the very top) of the RDA Food Pyramid.

That's not a stupid question at all.

In the new food pyramid, it is at the top, where you use the least of it. It is in the sweets and oils group. It is a good oil, but you still need only a little compared with the other foods --- fruits, vegetables, milk products, grains, meats.

In the VCMD grouping (vegetable, cereal, meat, dairy) , I believe this would fall under "vegetable".

In the GSSS (grease, salt, starch and sugar) grouping adopted by the BCA (Bachelor Cooks Association) it would fill the body's daily need for grease.

It's at the top of the food pyramid. You know, the very top part they call "Fats and sweets" and say to consume very little of.
