Don't personally know but know of some one. Rosemary Kennedy, third Kennedy child, was born retarded and at age 23 had a lobotomy. She died last month at age 86. The procedure was thought to make patients more manageable -- but with so much functionality and personality lost the cost was too great. It is rarely done.

Anyone who likes boy bands...just kidding. They haven't done "pre-frontal" lobotomies in the U.S. for quite a number of years. You cannot reverse a lobotomy and it was deemed cruel and inhumane. But I agree with the intelligent answer John Kerry.
Good answer.

Don't know her personally, but Miss Rosemary Kennedy (older sister of the President) has been reported to have received one. I don't think the procedure is performed except to excise tumors.

There was a beautiful actress that ended up having one back in the 60's. I can't remember her name at all, but it really screwed her up. What a shame.

They don't perform them anymore. I think they quit in the 60's or earlier. Most who recieved them just remained institutionalized afterwards.
