A man lives on the tenth floor of a building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. In the evening, he gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in the elevator - or if it was raining that day - he goes back to his floor directly. Otherwise, he goes to the seventh floor and walks up three flights of stairs to his apartment. Can you explain why?

He's a midget and can't reach the buttons higher than the seven. if it was raining he used his umbrella to punch the button to the 10th floor.

He never has to walk up the 3 flights of stairs because he lives in Seattle, WA and it rains 7 days out of 10. He works enough hours so he can have 3 days off in a row. Best I could come up with. I'll watch for the correct answer!

He can't reach the buttons on his own. If someone else is there he asks them to push the 10 for him. If it rained earlier and he has his umbrella he uses the umbrella to push the 10.
