I am a neonatal intensive care unit nurse for 13 years. You can sponge bath the newborn everyday but make sure you put baby lotion on so the babies skin don't dry to much and after the umbilical cord falls off you can give it a bath everyday as needed otherwise every other day..

Bathing daily is fine, once the umbilical cord falls off. Some may say less often, but let's face it, babies are messy. Even though you clean them up at every diaper change and after every feeding, they still need a complete bath! When it's hot (like it is now) they will be far more comfortable if they have a bath daily. Daily bathing is also an easy way to help keep diaper rash at bay, bond with your child and develop the beginnings of a morning or bed time routine--the day either starts or ends with a bath. It won't dry out their skin--they lived for 9 months in water! Use lotion or baby oil if you want to, it can't hurt!

Your baby needs to be sponge baths daily til his/hers umbilical chords falls off. Then he/she needs to be bathed daily. The poor little thing sits in urine and poop in the diaper all nite and in the day. There little bottoms must be cleaned of the natural ammonia's that are produced in there waste. Some babies have more sensitive skin than others and may need a bath or a good bum soaking more often to prevent or heal any rashes that might occur. These people who say 2 days or so are the people who's baby's smell like ****. When your baby is clean, your baby will smell clean......if your baby is dirty it will smell like....enough said.
Pamper, spoil and keep baby clean and he will be a happy baby.
Sometimes to if the baby is in a cranky spell a nice warm bath is sometimes soothing for them. Most things are trial and error with baby as they all differ but hygiene is a must!!

i bathed my boys every day... they never had nappy rash cradle cap or any other problems
i never took my babies out much when they were tiny but still loved bathing them...
i am in australia and this is the first time i am hearing that a baby shouldnt be bathed until the umbilical cord comes off... or that they should only be bathed every few days....
but at the end of the day do what suits you and your lifestyle... there were a few days here and there that they skipped baths because i was too tired or busy or we had to go out and i didnt want them to get sick

No more than twice a week because you can wash away all the skin oils that help protect the babies skin. When they still have the umbilical cord attached, you give them a sponge bath till it falls off.

I would bath them daily after they are about 2 weeks old but before then I would bathe every other day. You don't want to dry their skin out. Make sure that you lotion them down good when your through.

Not until the belly button falls off. Then it can be just a couple times a week. It's not like they're getting really dirty or anything.

You don't give them a bath until their navel cord falls off. You spong them off everyday until then.

They told me when I left the hospital, every third day.

However, clean the baby's hands often.
