I think the 72 used the piston type compressor, and the 85 used the radial (round) compressor. They will both do the same job, but it could be difficult to get everything hooked up. The f100 uses a vee belt, and the ltd probably has a serpentine belt. Brackets & hoses would be another issue.
I would try to find a good piston type compressor in a junkyard (pre 1979 ford, many AMC products, and even Mack truck should interchange) then have a new hose made at an auto supply store.

the belts WILL be diffrent, BUT you can take every thing off the car and bolt it to the truck if they are both small blocks (302,351w) just have to change everything on the front of the moter, fan pully, crank pully, alt(or swap pully) and of coarse the a/c all the blocks have the same bolt holes in them i put a moter out of an 86 merc grand marquise into a 74f150 with no problem just swaped it all over to the v belts

considering it is a ford no because they didn't use the same stuff on different years and given the age difference they will probably not work ford was notorious for changing every couple of years but you can try it you still have to change from the r-12 to the r-134a coolant for it either way
