why do people feel the need to grab,, poke or hit the fa's onboard? If you want to make me mad, it is to touch me..we have such little personal space that when someone touches us, we cringe. PLEASE. NO TOUCHING!!!

Why do people continually question a flight attendant's authority?
Why do they feel the need to grab, poke or hit the fa's on board?
Why do they touch you?

Well if you're a female, that's one big reason they don't respect your authority.

Two, if you're an attractive female, they respect your authority even less.

Three, if you're a blonde attractive female, they think you're dumber than a rock.

Four, if you are very sensuous and have a voluptious figure, many men probably can't resist touching you.

I commend you for working in such an enclosed space. It would drive most people nuts, as would the confined passengers.

You could get a big button to wear (can get em' custom made on Ebay) that would say "NO TOUCHA THE ATTENDANT"
or "HANDS OFF" or something like that.

The captain could help by announcing briefly that the airlines has a sexual harassment policy which includes passengers.

The captain could also come forward and make a brief introduction of you, and ask the passengers to respect and listen to you.

You might try wearing a more authoritive hairstyle.

I'd keep that no-water antibacterial stuff with me in my pocket.

A little film could display on how to keep peace on an airplane, how to not invade others space... however, space and privacy are virtually non-existant on an airplane, so you must suffer along with the passengers.

You might try dying your hair a different color. Or wearing boots with spikey heels you could acidentally 'spike' someone's foot if they got too touchy.

You could accidentally 'spill' some coffee on someone who was obnoxious to you.

You could cough in someone's face if they were rude to you.

You could fart at them.

well I tried to think of something.

Although I have never touched a flight attendant, I can tell you that the reason people question your authority is because the rules are NEVER clearly explained. Who cares if the tray table is up? You do because of safety. Explain to them why it's a safety issue. People don't usually fly frequently. They are anxious, and fa's rudeness, abruptness, and non-explanations not only increase anger and anxiety, but exaserbate it. I'm a frequent flyer, and know a few flight attendants, and sometimes I get such lousy service, that I get angry also. An FA spilled hot coffee on me once. Her remedy was an extra bag of peanuts, and she never said "I'm sorry." I don't think even you will feel good about that. I let the airline know about after we landed and have never flown them again. A good FA will take the additional 20 seconds for an explanation (or an apology), and then everyone will feel better.

For those of you who don't think flight attendants have authority, I suggest you do a thorough google search, and think again. The legal penalty for merely disobeying, yes disobey, a flight attendant, is a minimum of 2 years, and likely placed on the no-fly list. It is a felony. And if you ever even think about physically fighting a flight attendant, they are trained to deal with inflight security issues, that's why a lot of airlines give their flight attendants hand cuffs. Google it. Still think flight attendants don't have authority? Go ahead and try them, most of them are just nice enough to let small things go.

I fly a lot and so-called Flight Attentants drive me mad (but I never touch them).

Why do they think they have "authority"? Who do they think they are????

They are waitresses. Pure and Simple. Accept this fact.

If there is ever an accident there are 2 scenarios:
1. We crash into a mountain, go up in flames - all dead.
2. We crash land and can get out alive. Every man for themselves, I won't be waiting to listen to what some bimbo waitress has to say.

You're a waitress. You bring me food and drinks, then clean up after me.

You're a waitress. Your restaurant happens to fly.

Accept it.

Most people are afraid to fly and some are getting panicky and need to reach out and touch someone for comfort. You have made a wrong career choice.
I agree with camaroconver...You are rude...particularly to those who are flying with children....also you are arrogant. (Except Quantas airline staff, who are usually fantastic)./ I also agree with Tony B.,.........Oh and we pay your salary...without us you would be a diner waitress..so you better be nice to us because otherwise your airline is going down. Oh ..and I have never touched one either but fa,s have bumped into me plenty of times and they never say sorry...we are people...not cattle.

Maybe you shouldn't "tell" them what to do but ask nicely. Maybe their being rude to you in return for being rude to them.
