From your description, it might be a tortoise shell. They are primarily black with either streaks or marble yellow fur, they are always female (rare to have a male tortie). If there is any white, it would be a calico, but they don't have yellow, it's more tan.

Sounds like a calico cat. This is only a name for the coloring and not a specific breed. Most cats, unless you got it from a breeder, are just called domestic shorthair or domestic longhair cats. I think calico cats are particularly sweet, and they're not very common, so you are a lucky duck!

Tortise-shell, if no white is present. Calico if there is white on the cat.
Kitty will usually be female also. Color is a sex-linked gene in cats, so males in this color-combination are extremely rare. Those that exist, are sterile.

Tortoiseshell, although it's usually black and orangish. If it's black, yellow and white, it's a calico.
