There is less resistance with in the electrical motor compared to an internal combustion engine. Also there is the opportunity to return the energy back into the fuel cell during various operations of the vehicle, braking for example.

It has no emissions to cause pollution. It is very expensive so I don't know that "efficient" is the best word to use.

It's not efficient. It just uses hydrogen and not gas... but they get really crappy mileage.
