It gets very confusing for me and obviously for most christians , as there seems to be little consensus on anything in the bible. Thou shalt not kill...ever? only to protect yourself? Only if you have to...only if your country tells you to?...Never! What about that one?

Thou shall not murder may be a better translation.

There is a consensus on the bible if one reads it and understands it.

The problems arise when a person who has never read the bible nor understands what it is about tries to dispute it's accuracy. There are many "seemingly" inaccuracies that are very clearly in line with the rest of the bible once you understand the will and progressive revelation of the bible into Jesus Christ.

God never contradicts himself in the Bible. Our habbit of taking verses out of context are what make us think he is contradicting. And our position as Christians is to obey the Lord first, and the country/authority second. If your country's law or mandate is in conflict with the Lord, then our responsibility is civil disobedience. Choose your battle carefully, and always with eternity in mind. And something to ponder - my pastor was a marine before he became a pastor. What does that mean?

Lets get something straight here. First, everyone is a sinner. Yes there is confusion on the aspect of not killing, but if you are a christian and want to join the military, it is based on your beliefs and if you can do that. Truthfully, you should not kill anyone for any reason, but as christians we can ask forgiveness and it is taken away.

Jesus does say that and we do....but He also expects us to stand up and help the helpless and the oppressed and those who are hungry....America gives more than all other countries ...but we will not stand by and allow others to be oppressed and murdered.......the muslims would like for us { I believe you are one.}...to be submissive and bow down and that will never happen......we have always stood for the those who are in hopeless situations and I believe that is why God blesses America...even when we are growing in sin.....you reap what you sow and This nation has sown into all the other nations well....has yours?.....

Thou shalt not kill. I think it is pretty absolute. If you truly believe then you should never ever kill. I think if you say you are christian you should be willing to die rather than break a commandment. If you are truly christian you would never kill.

thou shall not kill, means murder or to lie in wait and kill an Innocent man! God does have a death penalty for murder! But in self defense he expects you to handle business! The meek shall inherit the earth. Why??Because when evil rises the righteous roar like a lion!

Interesting question. I'm pretty sure God would understand if you had to kill someone in self defense or to protect your family, but as for going to war? I highly doubt that God is on Bush's side.

Try not to go so literal with your translations. it sounds like you've researched a few religions out there trying to see where you fit in and got a bit confused. There are circumstances that mitigate actions. I don't believe it should be stated as LAW but as GUIDELINES of morality. Just things we already know, written down. I wouldn't break in your house and shoot you but guess what happens to the guy who breaks into MY house to shoot me or my family........................ BANG, that's what.
