The reason they are fighting is two-fold..behind the scenes the original story is to rescue two IDF soldiers that were abducted near the lebanese border (although caught on the lebanese side) by hezbollah guerrillas. Now Israel likes to institute what is called "collective punishment" on its enemies.. for every one of their soldiers caught or killed, they will indiscriminantly punish(kill) several hundred lebanese. Which I think the bodycount is approx 400-500+ dead so far? all this for 2 soldiers who shouldnt have been in lebanon in the first place... Now thats the surface reason we are told, however if you want to figure out the "real" reason this or any event that occurs or even whos the instigator, ask one question: "Who benefits from result of this event?" if we apply this to whats going on in lebanon, and what we already know with current events, we clearly see that Israel is the logical benefactor, Now Why would hezbollah purposely do anything to provoke the very response thats going on right now? they wouldnt, its suicidal..keep in mind currently the war drums are beating for the US to launch an attack on Iran eventhough were bogged down in Iraq-nam on the basis of "an unproven nuclear weapons program they allegedly possess" also despite the fact that north korea has blatantly stated and threatend the US with their ADMITTED possession of a nuclear weapon to which our response has been mmmm.. "diplomacy".. see the correlation? Now what does all that have to do with lebanon? The US will not attack Iran in the current state its in despite Israel's consistent "peer pressure" on our administration to "do something" SOOO how do you get the reaction you want if its not happening in a timely manner? by providing the proper ACTION to set it in motion and that would be to incite conflict in the region near the intended target with the goal of placing the troops in nearby Iraq in a perilous situation that would basically draw our military into the conflict and attacking Iran in order to protect them .. this way Israel kills two birds with one stone (no pun intended..) and achieves the objective..they knock out hezbollah (which by the way chased them out of beirut in the 80's and will do it again..) and they get their much wanted war with Iran only WE will do the fighting which is absurd at the least.. if you dont believe any of this as remotely possible, then do this one test.. keep watch on the events coming and as I have predicted, it wont be long before Iran is blamed by israel for aiding hezbollah with additional side support coming from syria.. nevermind the fact that you have two completely different doctrines of religion here dictating their belief system and actions which would not serve to foster a collaborative effort between the two.. Theyre both islamic but they come from opposite mindsets.. Remember Iran is the KEY..

Sure. They followed the world's pressure and offered land for peace. While they tore down the homes of their own people to prepare for the pullout, Arabs declared it a victory and told the Jews this was only the beginning of their vow to drive them into the sea (which they made all the way back when Israel became a nation after WWII).
Since then, the emboldened Arabs have continued to conduct terrorist attacks on innocent civilians on Israeli land. Finally, Israel's last straw was the kidnapping of soldiers in Israeli territory by Hezbollah. Anything less than what they have done woudl have been a red carpet for Hezbollah and any other terrorist organization to have their way with Israel, and slowly pick them apart.
Israel has done just about everything it can to avoid harming civilians...what other army drops leaflets, telling the civilians where and when the next bombings of Hezbollah strongholds will occur, risking that Hezbollah itself will have time to leave? And yet it is Hezbollah who keeps the civilians from leaving the targeted areas, so it can claim to the world that Israel is bombing civilian targets.
And since the UN is one of the most anti-Jew organizations in the world (its establishment of the Jewish state almost 60 years ago notwithstanding), it willingly lets the world believe it. You notice no UN peacekeeping forces have holed up in Israel, right?

A long long time ago in the 1950's a state was made. Jewish people displaced from Germany and Russia went there. They built there houses on land where others where not, on the hills, mostly. The new comers and the other ones got along until about the mid 1970's when western ideals where changing the other ones belief and ideals. The Jewish state was the closest thing to them of western ideals. Also carving up settlements where the others farmed and got there water. Hey they live in a dry place anyway. So this is way the sad state of affairs.

hezbollah attacked a isrealy patrol killed some soldiers and kidnapped 2 others. the attack came unprovoked and was just a stupid act. lebanon was told by the UN to dismantle all militias including hezbollah but failled to comply with it. so isreal decided that it is only right to try and destroy hezbollah who has a record of terrorist attacks including one that killed 250 US troops and many other attacks on isreal. Hezbollah may have actually been sent by Iran to do this to show the world that it has enough power in the region to cause problems. i think that it's only natural that isreal try to defend itself from further attacks.

terrorist continue to attack them, even after they agreed to peace terms. Iran and its terrorist have amission to destroy all Jews anywhere in the world.
It is obvoius from the fact that the terrorist have 1000's of missles they were armed to destroy Isreal or try. So before they have chemcial or atomic weapons they need to make a safe border between thier nation and others ( something the US should think about with our loose border.
so in breif, they have had just enough of taking a little attack here and there continiously from these terrorist and have decided to make them pay for it.
Sadly terrorist as the cowards they are, are hiding amoung civilians to make the world feel sorry for them when they cause thier deaths by hiding there.

Even little kids on yahoo answers has got to remember just a few years ago Israel giving up all the gaza strip under the guise that lebanon will stop fighting. As usual, Isael gave and gave and gave while islamic nazis kept taking and continued fighting. 3 weeks ago, hezbollah (lebanon's elected party) snuck into Israel and kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers. Israel finally had enough and is now attempting to rid lebanon of hezbollah.

The current leadership (while Ariel Sharon has been dying) decided that if they bombed flat the civilian population of Lebanon they would beat their terrorists into submission. They took the moral low ground and naturally the opposite will happen. They believe that America will come to their rescue when it all goes pear shaped and the Arabs unite to get rid of them. Under the present circumstances they are probably correct, what happens from there is any-ones guess.

Brief? Ok. Hezbollah is a major political faction in Lebanon. Hezbollah went into Israel and kidnapped two Israeli soldiers. Hezbollah wont give them back unless Israel releases 4000 prisoners. Fair trade? Israel doesn't think so.
Israel pounds the sh_t out of Lebanon until they get their soldiers back.

Just watch the news....A terrorist group, Hezbollah, is on Israel's border firing rockets at Israeli cities. That is the main reason. They target Hezbollah sites. At the same time, the Lebanese government knows about Hezbollah and doesn't do anything about it, so I'm sure Israel doesn't mind blowing some other stuff up too.

Because country's around them can't fight properly and they are bullies...the Jews have been beaten for so long they are taking advantage of the situation.
Kinda like watching a big kid at a school pick on little kids. And the teachers are the USA and other country's backing Israel.
Unfortunately for Israel little kids will one day grow up.
