Do not park in Washington. It's really expensive, IF you can find a lot with spaces. D.C has a good subway system. Park in one of their lots and take the Metro in. Buy a $10 farecard which should be enough so that you can ride all day.
Here's a link to a map of the subway system.

This second link is interactive and when you click on the different stops you can see a smaller map of what's in that area, and it shows which exit to take to get to wherever you want.http://www.stationmasters.com/System_Map/system_map.html
Have fun!

Go to one of the Metro parking lots EARLY - before 7:30 am - and park your car there. You will have to buy a Metro Smart Card for $5 in addition to paying the daily $4 parking fee. Still this is better than driving into Washington DC, driving around like a stupid tourist and snarling traffic for people who have to work in this cesspool.

There is no good place to park in DC! Take the Metro or a taxi - it is much better than trying to park and faster. You will spend most of your time trying to find a place - they are few and far between. If you happen to park in the wrong place or go over time in a meter you will get towed. Don't even think of driving in DC! It is not an easy place to get around with all the circles and one way streets.

We usually find good parking spots on weekends near the DAR or Red Cross buildings downtown (D or E streets NW). You can check the addresses online. Or, sometimes we just get lucky after driving around for a few minutes. Yes, it's difficult to find a parking spot all the time. It's a good idea to park at (or near) a metro station just outside DC. If it's a weekday, it's worse. Good luck!

If you can park near the outer limit at a metro station and commute in is the best thing to do. Otherwise look for the big blue P parking signs.

rock creek parkway there is a park, down by the waterfront near 30th and M street. I work around there and always park there since they RARELY ticket anyone and you can park there essentiallyt for free. I park there everyday from 12-9pm for the past 3 months and have NEVER gotten a ticket. I've parked on the streets of Georgetown and have gotten so many tickets I can't even remember. rock creek parkway. free, that;s all you need to know

I would park outside of town at a metro station and take the metro into the city. You don't want to deal with the traffic and the parking downtown.

Sometimes you can find places around 21st through 23rd streets NW, near the Lincoln Memorial, or on the cross streets (C, D, E). Many of them are meter parking, so bring change. Also, beware of the one-way directions!
