My whole life i have spent explaining to people who i am. I am very proud of being Kurdish but sometimes i wish i was of a nationality that all people knew of. You would think that people as oppressed as the Kurds would be known by all but unfortunately this is not the case. ARE THERE PEOPLE THAT KNOW ABOUT US?

David L - your comment that i am misdirected makes no sense. Why would i care if ppl know about kurds? How would u feel being of a nationality that not many people know about, an oppressed nation for many years. If u were of an ethinicity that no one knew of then you wouldnt have even bothered with that question. Also, we are not always fighting with someone - they are fighting with us because they cannot accept that we are a nation with our own language and culture.

It seems that people think that Kurdistan is divided only between Iran, Iraq and Turkey - I am Kurdish from Syria. Kurdistan is divided between those 4 countries.

Aye - Kurdish is a language defined on its own. Like many other languages there are common words found between them. The language is NOT made from other languages. Also, it can be written in either Arabic alphabet or Latin alphabet. Just like English, Italian, French and a number of other languages are written in Latin they too have their OWN language.

When I was in Diyarbakir, a Kurdish town in south-eastern Turkey in 1991, a Kurdish boy, 11 years old, gave me a guided tour of the town. Diyarbakir is a tense place, with lots Turkish soldiers and/or police (I couldn't tell the difference) standing around with machine guns. The boy spoke excellent English and French, which he had learned from tourists. He explained that the Kurds didn't like the Turkish police. I offered him money afterwards but he wouldn't take it - he just liked talking to people from other countries. So I have him a $2 coin from my country as a momento. Ever since, I have had a soft-spot for Kurds.

I know of the Kurds, although I may not be as familiar with their history. Kurdish people are throughout Northern Iraq and Iran and scattered about the former Soviet Union satellite states. An American Muslim woman I know recently married a Kurdish man living in Iraq and moved there. She loves the people there, and I think they love her more! The Kurdish people have very colorful clothing and a loving attitude. They have been oppressed for years, and have been persecuted particularly by the former Saddam regime who poisoned hundreds of Kurds with mustard gas in the 90s. Alas this is all that I know!!

Yes I know you. But couldn't find in the history as a nation through 10th century or later. I first faced Kurds regarding Marshall (US intervantion) events.
There is no proper language even no original grammer. It is a mixture of Arabic, Persian(Very very different from Arabic), French and Turkish.

I think not nation; perhaps as you said you belong to an ethinicity which is called "strain".

Yes, I once taught English classes and there were 2 Kurdish men in the class.. very polite and helpful too.

Kurdish music is great also, you can give samples to your friends

Let them know about Kurdish language and how it is a mixture of many other languages (such as persian, arabic, turkish etc.)

Let them know about how Kurdish people are spread over various countries in the Middle East, but share a common background and culture- music, dress, foods, language.

I know some. I have heard of the struggles in Iraq and Turkey.

I know that some wish for an independent Kurdish state which is opposed by the Turkish government.

You sound seriously misdirected. Why in the WORLD would you care if anyone knows about Kurds? By the way we ALL have heard of Kurds because you guys are always fighting with someone and therefore frequently on the news.

Stop spending your life explaining who you are, and just live and enjoy your life.

I don't know too much about the Kurds but I do know that Saddam Husein hated them and tried to genocide them.
I think that alone was enough reason to invade Iraq, too bad most people don't even know about that.

I only know about Khurds through the Media when Sadam killed many of your people. It was genocide. There are many nations and interesting people that many of us don't know about, I am taking time to research different coutries, i.e., Mongolia, is not a country you hear much about but it is very interesting when you read about it. I will research Khurdistan next.
