"I really believe you have to secure the border before a guest worker program works, or before any other program that you want," House Speaker Dennis Hastert said.
This is during a visit to the U.S., Mexican border.
The house speaker and five other congressmen visited the area recently.
Do you think that they got a realworld view of the impact ?

No, they only got a visual of an area of the border others wanted them to see.

But I do have to say they are correct in their assessment. You DO have to secure the border, or else any other program that our government tries to implement will be a joke, just like the current one is. Securing the border will allow any program that is in effect to do what it is supposed to, and allow people into the country for the reason of working. If they just want to work here, and don't want anything else from us, then there should be nothing wrong with a worker program.

But I have a feeling that will not be enough. Nothing ever is enough, is it?

I still don't think most have a real world view because they don't have to live with any of the problems. All they are the benefits without any costs. I believe that every politcian should have to spend at least a month living in the areas of Mexico and other countries that most illegal aliens are coming from, in order to figure out if that is the identity and culture they want for the future of the US. They should also go to the illegal alien colonies within the US and ask themselves if they want to continue to transform this country into that.

Nope. If they had a CLUE at all we would already have legislation cracking down HARD on Illegals and those who hire them. All there attempting to do when they go to the border is create photo ops. If your smart you'll find out EXACTLY where all candidates running in your area stand on Illegal Immigration. And come election time Vote against any and all who support Illegals in any way shape or form. Its TIME america sends those elected to represent us a LOUD and Clear message.

To an extent yes. But they should also be looking at the Americans that are hiring the illegals. Perhaps going after them would help put an end to the "problem".

No, they don't. They are in their own worlds and they have no clue what real Americans, especially the middle class have to live with. They could obviously care less. They are so far removed from reality where this issue is concerned.

They probably feel a little "gut" fear at the way Americans have reacted to the huge issue of illegals....

Now, they are having to decide who to please, their constituency or the "new vote"

They better continue to be more afraid of us, the Americans...or they may create a situation that gets out of hand and violence and bloodshed will follow.

I hope they do something before this happens...

No way. I've said this before, I think they should all have to take turns living in Laredo, or Brownsville, then maybe they would get a glimpse of what is happening down here.

no one in office get a real view of anything because everyone is blowing sunshine up their butts. i was in Baghdad, rumsfeld came, they picked the "happy" "kiss as*" troops to eat with him. for 3 days before he got there my unit was outside sweeping the damn road. sweeping the rocks off the damn road for three days, then they blocked off 3 of the porta potties for his personal use and non of the troops could use them. that's not reality.
