well nflhandicapper! i will try and simplify this for you as much as i can. Airborne in military form is the art of jumping out of aircraft at a given altitude, Air Assault is a term used to describe rappelling out of helicopters or helicopters themselves are used to rapidly deploy troops in the field, Pathfinder is a term used for troops that deploy normally in parachutes and set up air fields for further operations of fixed wing and non fixed wing aircraft, Ranger school is specialized infantry training, these men are some of the army's most elite combat soldiers, Now with all this being said Army Rangers are scattered throughout most of these units in the Army usually in a Sgt or above rank so as to sharpen these units, Air Assault is not and Airborne unit although some of the personnel in this division are Jump qualified and the name of the 101st is still Airborne. Pathfinders are all jump qualified and though they have their own units they can be found throughout all Airborne company's.......i hope that the links below will help further your knowledge.

Airborne is military static line parachuting. Watch or read Band of Brothers.
Air Assault is rapid attack using Helicopters with soldiers rappeling from the helicopters or the helos touching down long enough for a quick exit.
Pathfinders are soldiers trained to go in ahead of ain assaults of either Airborne or Air Assault forces in order to mark the landing and or drop zones.
Rangers are elite light infantry used for quick assaults.
All soldiers in positions or units with these types of missions receive specialized training, and required to maintain a higher level of discipline, physical fitness, and overall readiness.

Airborne - inserted by parachute from a plane (think WWII)
air assault - inserted by rope from a helicopter (think Black Hawk Down)
Rangers - glorified Infantrymen that are at least airborne qualified, but can be air assault too.
Pathfinder - trained to parachute in and setup LZ's (Landing Zones) for the other paratroopers.

You are getting missions and unit-types mixed up. And at your level of present confusion, I think the best is for you to use Google or Yahoo, look up these names and start keeping notes instead of expecting to get a quick and easy answer here which is going to be leaving out tons of information you will want to know if you are seriously interested.
But at heart Army Airborne is paratroopers.

Airborne is not a rank, but it is training to become a paratrooper. And Airborne usually preceeds Ranger school.

Infantry. in case you actualy choose to leap out of a airplane someplace different than citadel benning do infantry. i do no longer even understand why non attempt against hands human beings get airbourne coaching. Airbourne is to drop squaddies at the back of enemy lines. men who're in attempt against hands are the only men nicely worth giving airbourne. absolutely everyone elce is a waste of tax funds.
