Sign up for some home-ec classes at your local Community College, so you can learn how to balance your check books, use credit cards wisely, and generally keep from having credit judgments against you.

Dear CC-In-Trouble,

If a judgment was made and a court ordered your bank accounts to be closed you actually a few options... Although I won't have all of the details that you need I do strongly suggest you get legal advice. Here are some possible steps that you're going to need to take:

1) Call the credit card company and arrange payment terms if you indeed owe the monies. Some options that I would recommend would be for you to offer an "auto-pay" out of your bank account, the levy against it may be released and then once a month you'll be able to make payments. Credit card companies never want to take a loss, so they should be more than interested in setting up some kind of arrangement with you. Remember that the credit card company is NOT the same as the debt collection company and that you can skip the debt collectors and work directly with the credit card vendor.

Note: When a judgment has been made against you, ChexSystems and all of the 3 credit bureaus are notified. This prevents you from opening up an account at another financial institution.

2) Talk with your bank and they should provide to you the writ (or notification) that was ordered to them to freeze your accounts. The judgment had to go through the court in order for them to enact the levy. So you also might want to try and find a case number and research why you were never notified.

3) Pull your own credit - you can go to www.annualcreditreport.com or you can go to www.myfico.com - take a look to see if you can find the card with the outstanding balance under the "negative" or "derogatory" section of your report. If you decide to pull the report portion, the report should be free and if you wish to pay for the score, I think it's something like $5.00?

4) Take it a step further and either contact a lawyer (if you're in college, the college usually provides legal advice) or call the Better Business Bureau (if you believe that you don't owe the money). You're definitely going to need legal advice on this one and I really hate to tell you but it's going to be some work to get this fixed.

Once you have been able to come to some kind of resolution with the credit card company and your bank, you're then going to want to get the ChexSystem's notification updated (if there is one). If you have any paperwork, you'll need to write a letter and fax it into them...

Good luck!
