My mother in law and everyone on my husbands side of the family were family friends with a gentleman. I was introduced to him when I met my husband, it wasn't till we were ready to get married was I told that he was minstor. So I knew him as a friend first. I was lost with religion and was rather imbarassed, so I never went to Church afraid to look dumb. This last year, almost 10 years after I met him, we started to attend his Church. We have become very active in things, and see more and more how dedicated he is to what he does. Christmas is fast aproching and I would like to get him something more then special. To show him how much he has done for me and my family, and how greatful I am that he has helped to bring a better understanding of religion into my life. Does anyone have any ideas?

My Father is a minister and i tell you there is great software for helping prepare sermons and lessons available. You can get "Quick Verse" it's great! or Iwillworship.com has great links to christian music of all types. I just recently bought our pastor a book for his birthday. It listed all the promises in the Bible and how to use these promises in your own life. He has used this book for several of his sermons.

If I may be so bold, forget for a minute that he may be a paster, he is also a human being. He must have personal interests and what nots. I have a friend that is a paster. He also has a passion for jelly belly jellybeans, LOL. Guess what he gets at Christmas! Doing for the man is not a slight on his title. I hope I helped!

When I went to Haiti on a mission trip, I got my priest a carved chalice. You could get something that he would use in the service, a gift card to a Christian bookstore. I would stay away from Bibles, books (unless you know he wants a specific one), and music, because he probably has tons of Bibles and tastes in books and music really vary. Good luck!

You could contact his church secretary and ask what book, piece of software, or Christian music cd he has mentioned that he needs, wants, or plans to buy. There is a TON of Christian materials that any pastor would love to have, but they have limited funds to do so with.
A gift certificate, while nice to receive, is rather impersonal and NOT more than special.

Most pastors live humbly, so get him something to spoil him as a person. How about a gift certificate to a mens clothing store? All pastors should look their best.
If you give him money, he may use it for the church.

So much can depend on what size church, interest of the pastor and so much more.
In smaller churches, most pastor can not afford to eat out at nice places, so a gift certificate at a really up scale place for him and his wife to eat.

A gift certificate to a book store and a loaf of panera bread. Blessed be, and I'm glad you've found a good church and a good pastor.

Maybe a notebook with notes from his services that you took, some additional thoughts of your own, and how you've you applied his messages to your life. Kind of an exxagerated Thank You For Serving card.

maybe a weekend trip somewhere with his wife. It doesn't have to be somewhere far or exotic but a nice Bed & Breakfast somewhere in the country. You should mention it to the congregation and perhaps some of the parishoners will chip in. My pastor and his wife had a similar trip and they were greatly blessed by it.

A tie tack perhaps......that way when he gets it out to wear it, the meaning behind it will be brought back to him, but
I don't think that it really matters what you give to him as a gift
I think it will be the card that's included in it that will hold special meaning to him. Tell him what you just told us.....
