I have thick wavy hair, but whenever I swim in a pool it dries curly. I really like it that way but can't figure out what makes it do that. Could it be the chlorine?

Well chemicals such as chlorine, and even more so salt, tend to curl your hair. I have the same thing occuring with my hair. Its wavey but curls a lot after a salt water swim, or a swim in a pool. More so in the salt water. I thinkthat the chemicals dry out your hair ( and by drying it out its curling up. Its not severly damaging, but high amoutns of chlorine isdamaging to the hair causing split ends. If you spritz salt water into your hair after its mostly dry you can achieve the 'beach curl' that your seeing, it wont be as curly but it will be more than usual, and more even just put a cup of water a tbs of salt in water and then spray on hair evenly

The chlorine could be acting as a product to hold your curls a little tighter than usual (although the damage is NO good) Wet hair always reverts back to it's natural shape, try a great mousse out of the shower and diffuse your hair almost dry to achieve the same look without the pool

It's because that is the way your hair is naturally, if you didn't bruch it or comb it when it was dry. A lot of people make the mistake of brushing or coming hair when its dry and naturally curly and it turns into a poofball.
The key is to let it air dry, maybe use a product like mousse or gel (stickier the better because it keeps the curls locked together), and DO NOT BRUSH or COMB it once it is dry, or even slightly damp.
It is ok to brush your hair right after you wash it even if you have a perm, as it cannot remove the curl. The only way to remove a curl is with chemicals that alter the physical state of your hair.
Anyway, just comb or brush it out when it's still very wet, apply some product, and let it dry. To get more body and keep the curl, flip your head over and "Scrunch", or squeeze, it. You can blow dry it, but use your hands, no brush, low heat, and scrunch it. If you want to get it curlier once it's dry, just mist your hair with water to re-liquify the product and "scrunch" the curls. It should be beautiful!!

A lot of people who have thick have a natural curl.
This is why your hair curls when it is wet.

when people get their hair wet, it returns to its natural state. thats why when people get perms, they cant go swimming without caps or their perm will come out. when i get my hair wet, i get an afro because thats the way my hair naturally is. and the same thing happens to people with curly hair.
