I just had a root canal and am in lots of pain. The dentist didn't give me anything. I've been taking lots of ibuprofen, but can I take too much? I can't get to the dentist for a few days.

It sounds like Vicodin is your only answer. If your dentist doesn't answer then try calling your regular medical doctor; or if you get no response from either and the pain gets to the point of no return, people have been known to go to the emergency room.. The longer your wait on ibuprofen the worse the pain will get and when you do in fact get some real pain killers it might take a considerable amount of time to bring down the pain level..

Yes you can take too much - the maximum is the dosage stated on the packet - and for a reason - also ibuprofen belong to a catagory of pain killers containing phenacitin, that put holes in your kidneys when used in excess - also you risk addiction to ibuprofen - it may be a strong pain killer but will not do you much good for a root canal pain - call your dentist, there are special pain killers designated for post-such procedures.

Hey, too much of Ibuprofen is dangerous. It should be just once a day only and not more than that because it not only damages your liver but also make you so immuned later nothing works for you. You could risk your life if consumed too much. The more you take the more you become immuned to the pain killer so try limit this dose.If too much pain persist just try and get help from a dentist or take MILD pain killer. Gotto bear little pain sometimes.

Prescription strength would be 800 mg four times a day, but limit that to 5-7 days. This is assuming that you are not taking other meds and that you do not have medical conditions that would contraindicate taking the prescription strength. Read the side effects and proceed at your own risk. If you start to have any of the side effects, cut back or discontinue the ibuprofen.

It's best to consult a pharmacist about that or put a call into your dentist.
Most if not all dentists have an after-hour telephone number.

The pharmacist will ask your age and your weight to determine how much you should be taking. You want to make sure you're not harming your stomach or kidneys.

It sounds like you are experiencing severe pain, so give your dentist a call sooner than later.

does your doctor have an oncall service. I think you can take up to 900 mg of advil every 4 hours, the more you take the harder your kidneys have to work. At a minimum your doctor could call you in something stronger

Call the pharmacist.

I would think it would be 800mgs.
But do not take my word.

But do try this-- Tylenol Arthritis. I had tooth surgery and that was the only thing that helped. So go back to the store and get it. You will feel much better. It is like nothing you have ever tried before.
