She's a stay at home mom who is an acquaintance. She will be watching my 2 kids, ages 6 and 9 in my home. She will be here from 5:50 am until 3pm. How much should I pay her? I was thinking $50 bucks for the day? Is that reasonable?

She is the best person to answer that question. That is a lot of hours. 9 hours for $50.00 equals $5.56 an hour. What kind of service can you expect to get for $5.56 an hour. I pay more to the person walking my dog, or feeding my fish.

If that is all you can afford, just ask her if that is reasonable to her? What are some other perks you can throw in. I'm not suggesting giving her the farm, but if she is any good, you would want to ensure that you can keep her around. You would not want to have to search for another child care provider.

Your two children are worth more for quality care, IMHO.

$50 for the day is incredibly reasonable! Make certain she understands that if she decides to spend money on the kids, unless you specifically ask, it is HER money she is spending, and will not be reimbursed. It doesn't matter what her personal financial situation is. $50 is fair! Besides your kids will be going back to school soon right? That means they are of age to help out, and handle some small responsibilities!

I have 2 kids and pay $5 an hour for a babysitter but the home daycare I occasionally use it is $2 per kid and $1.50ea. a day for food.

I might think that $50.00 is reasonable but If she is really good and will stay awake LOL you should pay good! One time when I got a babysitter for my daughter when I came home the babysitter was asleep and I was so mad that I didn't pay her at all! So if she will be responsible I would think that is the right price!!

The standard rate for babysitting is around $8/hr for one kid. So $50 is a little light. You should pay $75-80 per day.

Ask her what she is comfortable with. She may be OK with the rate if you are providing the food for her lunch.

I was going to say about $5/hour, so that would be about $45 dollars. So I think your $50 is very reasonable.

Honey...don't listen to those negative remarks. $50 sounds very reasonable. Where I live that considered great pay for a day. I guess, it varies where U live. But anyhow, that sounds pretty good.

$50 seems reasonable. Depends how close of a friend and whether or not you ever baby sit for her in exchange.
Leave extra money or food for the kids.

5 bucks an hour thats what kids get paid for bbsitting in canada, and how diffcult are your kids cause that age can be a challenge so 5.50 an hour might be better if they a little less than saintly.

I think 50 is cheap for two children. I say around 65-75 and throw in lunch and her favorite snacks.
