I'm sorry but most people who have dogs do have to work for a living so the dog is left during the day. My boxer stays in the kitchen during the day and overnight (while we are sleeping, not gone overnight) with a baby gate to keep her in there and she is a very happy, healthy dog. She has a few toys, plenty of rawhide chewies, water available and a comfy bed. Many dogs prefer a smaller space like that while alone rather than access to the whole house because a large area can be overwhelming for them. Also, less trouble for them to get into. Just make sure the dog goes outside before you leave and as soon as you get home. If it is possible make a stop home during the day too. Another alternative if you have a fenced yard is to install a dog door. I feed her in the evening as opposed to morning so she has plenty of time outside afterwards. If I go on a trip she either goes with us or she stays with a sitter we trust. I have on occasion had someone stop in to let her out while out of town but I think this might be scary for her so I prefer not to do that. I leave the tv on for her while gone during the day so it is not so quiet but I have no idea if she really cares about that or not.

It means that most all dogs left alone day after day while people are at work is not mentally good for the dog. The same people usually go out on the weekends leaving the dog alone again. It is very unfair to the dog and leads to behavior issues.
A vacation or day trip is not a problem if the dog is being cared for in some way.

Any dog left alone could possibly cause a mess. If you're going to be gone over night, leave it with a sitter or at a kennel. If you are going to work, or school, up to 10 hours (depending on the dog's age) use a crate. It wouldn't hurt to have someone let him out for a while either.

Any breed has the potential for making a mess. You should know best how long your dog can "hold" it. Don't leave him alone for a period longer than that! If you will be gone longer than that...then get a sitter or neighbor to walk him while you are gone.

you cant leave any animal alone for a long period of time without food, and shelter and a place to go potty.

Take your dog to a local shelter so someone who actually loves it can adopt it. You're a sad soul.
