I was just at the store the other day and saw that they had these for little girls. I thought they were cute and thinking about getting some for my daughter to wear for special days. I agree with you that she shouldn't be using adult glue, as there are a lot of crap in them. I would suggest that next time you go to wal-mart and buy a child's nail kit and send it with her for the girlfriend and your daughter to use since they had so much fun doing it last weekend together. Maybe showing them once might give them the message that you are not happy with the nails.

No one is wrong, Little girls love to act like little ladies, it is so healthy. It is not like she died her hair or something, fingernails are not a big deal. I do think she should of asked if it was okay with her Mom and Dad, maybe the girl friend had no clue?? Just make sure she does not hurt her fingers because they can get caught on things. Maybe you and your daughter can have beauty night and have a blast! Anyway in a very polite manner I would talk or write a letter to the lady explaining how happy your baby was with her pretty nails but you would prefer her to ask first. Just some simple yet polite ground rules because Dad may not be relaying the message.

No, I don't have a specific age in mind but I do know that 7 is way too young! I would say highschool at least, when teens decide for themselves and are serious enough to get the adult glue.
However, your daughter could just be being a child. I have a ton of little girl cousins who love to try on my aunt's makeup(when she's not around) or adorning themselves with jewellery for fun and playing dressup. That would be okay, but the fact that she has the adult glue on is definitely not ok. She could hurt himself when playing and it's pretty too small for such a young child.

Glue-on nails aren't as bad for you as everyone thinks. As long as she's not wearing them for extended periods of time, she will be just fine. If, for some reason, you allow her to wear them for over a week, you'll find that when you remove them her nails will be soft - but within about 24 hours they will harden again (when they can't breathe, they turn soft). No harm will be done, unless she's eating the glue or something. I can see why you would be concerned - why don't you ask her dad's girlfriend to paint her nails instead of gluing nails on?

Your right, 7 is too young. But they'll get on her nerves, and they'll be gone within the next 24 hours. I don't think kids should have their nails done until their at least 13, because by then they'll know how to take care of them. Just take a deep breath though, and deal with it for the time being. If it happens again, then maybe you should step up and say something, to the ex and the new wife.

7 years old. I think his girlfriend might have done it just to make you mad. thats exactly what it sounds like to me. But i could be wrong. I would say 7 is way too young to have fake nails on...the adult kind. The kiddy kind with the 2 sided tape, maybe, but not with nail glue. You have every right to be angry.

Hi!
I am a mom and a nurse, and I vote never for artificial nails of anykind. They are magnets for infections, and most hospitals forbid their staff from wearing them. If she plays like kids her age do, they are going to break or worse, be ripped off at great risk to the shape and health of her natural nail. The glues are also very damaging to the surface of her own nails. Many of the infections caused by them are very difficult to cure. Many salons or nail techs are lax about sterilizing and disinfecting their equipment, too. If she bites her nails, short term, professional acrylics might inspire her and help her break the habit. I think you are absolutely right about a 7 year old being way too young. Is there a chance your ex would listen to evidence he could pull up on sites like WebMd or Healthnet that proves artificial nails are not good for his child? Good luck, some times moms get unfair flak when they make unpopular decisions for their kids, but thats what we are supposed to do.

She is too young, she should be out playing and not worrying about doing her nails.

I hate to sound like my mother, but the nails will be only the beginning, in a few weeks other things will be added to the 'grown-up' lists of things she is too young for. Call up the ex, ask to speak to the girlfriend and lay down the law. Tell her your daughter is not old enough for grown-up make-up, nails etc. If she feels that she must do dressup with your daughter, you expect it to be the kind that is agae appropriate for your daughter, not for the girl friend.

Good Luck

you're not wrong! does your ex's g/f want your kid to be the next jon bonnet rampsey!?!? young girls are always in too much of a rush to grow up.

i saw a kid that must have been 9 or so with highlights in her hair and ACRYLIC NAILS!! some parents have no priorities....

Tell the girlfriend to ruin her own kid. No fake nails until atleast 13 --that's what i'd do anyway.
