Sad situation to be in, I suggest moving to a more secure area. Not every neighborhood has drive bys. Do yourself a favor and get out of there not just for physical safety but for your mental health as well.

Get all the windows replaced with Polly windows (hard tough plastic bullet proof windows). Attach a secruity camera to the outside of the house.

With what you'd have to spend to bullet-proof the house...you could move to a better neighborhood and possibly live a little better and a little longer...

brick house, with metal between the inside and outside walls.
Bullet proof glass on the windows, metal doors with metal frame.
