this may seem mean, but sprinkle some pepper on top of the fridge. then when he/she jumps up there and licks their paws, it will give them a negative feedback response and they will stop going up there. it may take a few times, and don't worry, it doesn't hurt them.
mine decided her favorite spot was on the shelf in the living room, and she kept knocking stuff off. as a last resort, i sprinkled some pepper on the shelves and within a week, she stopped jumping up there and my knick-knacks are still there (at least the ones that are left).
good luck :)

You've got the right idea, but your timing is off. The time to
squirt is when the cat is about to jump, or immediately after
he touches down. If you squirt him later than that you're wasting
your time.

Catch him in the act and you'll be effective.

You're lucky he just gets up there once in a while. I have a psycho cat (I love her dearly!) who LIVES on top of the refrigerator. Her bed is there and her bowls. I adopted her from a shelter and she had been abused. That's the only place she feels safe, so I let her live there.

Consider pulling him down while making a loud, unpleasant noise, like yelling. If you do it repeatedly he will start to pair the unplesant experience with being on the refrigerator and learn not to do it. It might take a while, though. Just be consistent.

Put some double-sided tape on top of the fridge. Cats hate anything sticky on their paws, so if your cat jumps up on the fridge and encounters a sticky surface, he will learn to not jump up there.

place a thin film of vaseline on its surface and then sprinkle pepper flakes into the vaseline. that will end that misehaviour quickly. The gunk can be removed in about 3 weeks.

Best of luck, outside of remove the cat each time and put something else up there.........................? One thought, a motion activated noise maker, preferably a dog, put that up there. See how well the cat likes being barked at.

I personally wouldn't care if my cat sat up there, or not. It's warm on top of the frig. Maybe you should get a dog, and put him there for a few days. My cat rules me.........

If the water doesn't work, try simply removing him every time he gets up there. It is hard work for you but he might catch on.

I've heard that Scat Mats work well. I've never used them but a professional zoologist recommended them. I imagine you get them at a pet store.
