It is much easier for most people to throw names at someone and belittle them instead of fixing the deeper issue at hand. It is a shame that there is such little respect for other people in this world. Whatever happened to the old adage that if "You don't have something nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all." I believe that most people suffer from low self-esteem (even if they appear egotistical) and by calling other people names and putting them down, they think that it shifts the negative attention onto the person that they are degrading, but in reality, all it does is make the person who is name calling look like an idiot.

It's a primitive emotional process within us. Some people might do it as a display of dominance. Some might do it because a person is different than theirselves, many people expect others to be like themselves and shun those who aren't. Some might do it as a defense mechanism. Some may just be young and learned it from someone else. There are many reasons that cause people to call others bad names, but the people doing it usually just don't know any better. It's just sort of an innocent ignorance motivated mainly by primitive emotions. The intelligent thinking person is sympathetic to such individuals because they simply just don't know any better and have little understanding of their actions in this case.

I guess to make themselves feel better about themselves. I used to be called poison by my classmates (when I was in grade school I contracted poison ivy so bad that I needed to be hospitalized). They called me fairy (because it rhymed with my name). They were just very mean nasty children. Some of them still call me these names when they see me. I just look at them and tell them if it makes them feel like a "Big Man" to call me a name, so be it, but it only shows the world how small they really are.

I really don't know why. Probably for their own amusement. I think if I called a person an @$$, I'd probably get slapped. People calling each other names is childish. Not for people my age.

Because they're not very creative and don't have a command of the language to where they can put someone down without that person realizing until later when they figure out what the person said. A good diplomat can tell someone to go to hell and have them looking forward to the trip.

'nuff said?

Frustration. They haven't a good argument so they resort to name calling. It's childish behavior.
