My cat will go outside and eat grass and then throw it up. Cats eat grass to get nutrients out of the grass and also to get water from the grass blades. They will throw up the grass blade because they cannot digest it.

The foam stuff can be mucus or a hairball that the kitty is getting ready to puke up.

If your cat really likes to eat grass but is an indoor cat, Cat Chow makes a good Indoor cat food that has grass in it, but they don't puke it up.

Good Luck!

Your cat is eating grass because he/she is thirsty. Your cat wont drink water from a dish right??? Ok so your cat chews on the grass because there is moisture in the grass (even if it doesn't rain for a while). Your cat throws up the grass because cats don't digest grass.

Most cats eat broccoli spears (cooked and cold)..not the stems only the top part.

My suggestion....If you have an indoor cat...water plants and let the cat drink from the plants (make sure your plant doesn't have fertilizers in the soil). He'll drink it. Also, your cat may knead on a towel after you shower and dry off...your cat is sucking out the water in the towel.

Cats will eat grass sometimes to make themselves throw up. It helps them clean out their systems. But if it's happening frequently it could be a problem.
The foamy stuff is just cat spit. :)

Cats and dogs eat grass I have been told over the years that it helps settle they're stomach upset. As much as a cat grooms they also get hairballs and throw them up,too. What your saying seems to be natural. I wouldn't worry but to ease your mind bring it to the vet.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. I somehow thought that they needed to eat grass and throw up, or that it was at least healthy for them. That's a smart idea to go to the vets though.

If he's a long haired cat he'll be eating the grass deliberately so that he is sick. This is because he may have eaten some fur when grooming and this is the only way to get it out of him.

I carefully chuck my cat in the garden when she does it so the cleanup operation isn't quite so gruesome.

Some of the things you should be paying attention to before you go to the vet tomorrow: is your cat eating or drinking more or less? is it going to the bathroom the same amount? still able to pee? more or less sleepy?
Just keep an eye on him. See if he does anything weird or different, besides throwing up.

Cat and dogs both eat grass because their bodies need it. it acts like an internal cleaner: kicking out gross things like bile, excess mucus, etc. it also kicks out any worms they may have in their intestines. plus they get needed vitamins, minerals, and amino acids from it. Grass has chlorophyll which use to be used for relieving pain, treating infections, ulcers, skin dieases, etc prior to man making antibiotic. so grass is actually a good thing the vomiting is just part of the process. gross as it is.. its actually good for the critters

Probably hairballs and you're vet will have what your cat needs to help keep these to a minimum - any time a pet eats grass it has an upset stomach - we give ours a Tums.

That is why he is eating grass, because his belly is upset. My kitty will vomit foam too, often times he vomits because he has hairballs or his diet does not agree with him. Sometimes excessive vomiting can indicate an obstruction.
