I have had dogs for many years and currently do have them. FIRST YOU ARE THE BOSS OF THE DOG AND YOU HAVE TO MAKE HIM ACCEPT IT. If you can't or aren't able then you need to get rid of him to someone who will love him and make him behave properly. If he senses your fear, and since you said you are afraid I can promise he does, then he will not back down. Dogs are tame, but they are still like their wolf ancestors in that they have to have a place in the family unit or pack. Some are easy to accept it, others are not. But if he can't be controlled and made to mind then you need to get him to someone who can change him and make him live right in his family unit. He is dangerous in that he is big enough to hurt you. I have been bit a time or two, and any dog owner who really cares to make their dogs accept their place and be happy in it will sooner or later be bitten. That is life, but to be bitten by a large dog who thinks he is in a higher place than you can be very bad. Show my response to your husband as well. If the dog is a problem then you both have to make him see he is the bottom of the pack. And he needs to see your husband treating you as his wife too. If he can't or want accept it then get him another home. If you have children then this is even more dangerous potentially. I am not trying to scare you, just to make you understand this. The dog is cute, but if he doesn't know or will not accept his place then he is a potential danger.

You got some really good input from some people on here.
Getting the dog fixed may actually help.
I would do that 1st!
Also male dogs that remain unfixed for many years can actually get testicular cancer. So if you have no plans of breeding him just get him fixed. Unfixed males do tend to be more aggressive than fixed males. (I have to work with dogs everyday at my job)
This does sound like a dominance issue too. Your dog HAS TO know you are the leader of the "pack" All dogs have this inate instinct to be the leader. Obedience School won't help because YOU have to be the one to let the dog know whos in charge. Not a stranger. If you show fear the dog will know it & can play off that. If you are seriously terrified of this dog you need to get past that & repremand him when he does act like this or get rid of him, It's up to you.
Good Luck & it is not too late to be the leader of the pack.

The only answer is to NOT be afraid of him... he is doing this to you because he senses your fear. Dogs can sense when you are afraid. You have to take charge, command sternly, "No!", say "Bad dog" in your angry voice. "Get!" every time single time that he does that. because if he "wins" sometimes he'll keep trying you. Do you mean it's when your husband is not home? If it's when he is home, he's "competing" with your husband for you. If it's when he's not he just knows you are afraid and he can intimidate you. Either way consistency and controlling your fear are what it is going to take. Also sit in a chair and train him to sit at your feet by rewarding him when he does with affection and a treat.
good luck *U*

How old is he? If he is young I can see that. Does he know basic commands like sit, stay, come, wait, down. If so, I recomend using a program that we used on my dog that is called Nothing in Life is Free. Search under ask.com or google and you will find it. This is putting you as Alpha NOT your dog. YOU go first into the door, YOU go first out the door, YOU eat first, YOU-YOU-YOU EVERYTHING!! That way when he is really liking your leg you tell him to "quit" and DO NOTHING stand like a bump on a log, when he quits give him a treat. That way more than likly he is wanting your attention so if you move or praise or whatever the case is to him he is GETTING your attention. If you stay put he is getting NOTHING.
Just something to try. Hope this helps!

Humping is not a sign of being horny, it is a sign of dominance. You have to show him that you are the top dog and you will not tolerate his behavior.
Grab him by the scruff of the neck and give him a good shake next time he does it. If that doesn't work, put some lemon juice or mouthwash in a squirt bottle and give him a squirt on the tongue.
Put about 25 pennies in a can and give it a good shake when he misbehaves

It sounds like you may require the services of a professional trainer. You might look in the yellow pages of your local phone book under pet services.
You can also try calling your local kennel club, shelter or English Bulldog Rescue, or the AKC to see if they might be able to recommend someone reputable in your area.
I would certainly contact an English Bulldog Rescue - they are people who have a fondness for Bulldogs, are familiar with the breed, the problems and hopefully solutions!
Try PetFinder.com to find a Breed Rescue in your area. Alternately, you can Google "English Bulldog Rescue" and be in touch with someone via email.
Good Luck!

If u have never watched the Dog Whisper DO! And u can also buy his DVD I highly recommend this. He has even been on Oprah. He is right in everything is tells u to do. You have to be the pack leader. you have to show him you are boss. He shows u how to do this. With out being mean. When it comes to the DW your dog is never to old and obediance school does not work for all dogs.

I'd say to get him fixed and look into obedience classes. Couldn't hurt, might help. I had my male fixed at an early age and used to flip him on his back, show him my teeth and growl at him to teach him early who is boss. He is now 5 and although he does not "like" my leg at times he does try to test the boss waters by acting out.

Living in fear of your own pet is not good. One day, you may wake up with a half chewed face like that women in France.
I suggest you can do one of two things: either get that dog train or get rid of it. Take him to an animal shelter and explain that this dog is scaring the sh!t out of you.
That is the only thing I can think of.
