Well, Jesus can be pretty tricky and his parables are not just stories but have been considered to be, by some, quite subversive! In this parable of turning the other cheek, there is another level of meaning that we are missing-- Here is a quote that sheds some light:
Jesus clarifies his meaning by three brief examples. “If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” Why the right cheek? How does one strike another on the right cheek anyway? Try it. A blow by the right fist in that right-handed world would land on the left cheek of the opponent. To strike the right cheek with the fist would require using the left hand, but in that society the left hand was used only for unclean tasks. As the Dead Sea Scrolls specify, even to gesture with the left hand at Qumran carried the penalty of ten days penance. The only way one could strike the right cheek with the right hand would be with the back of the hand.

That was back in the day. A lot of things talked about in the old testament do not apply in the new testament, if ya do the reading. Nowadays it is not bad for you to beat his ***. Especially now you have to fight the devil all the time. Just can't be doing it to hurt for fun.

You know it is U.S. court law that says that you must flee when attacked. You cannot defend yourself if you have a avenue of escape. The only place you do not need to that is in your home, court figuring you ain't any place to run then.

This is not a statement meant in a physical hit, it is more of taking the attacks upon your faith in Christ, in other words, don't argue back about your faith in Christ.

Tell him to grow up and leave you alone.
That meaning shouldn't mean you let people walk all over you, but you have to try to understand why they might be angry.
