Scabies mites are very fastidious. They need a warm body and can't live without one for more than an hour or so. That is why transmitting them requires prolonged physical contact of the skin-to- skin variety. It is hard, if not impossible, to catch scabies by shaking hands, hanging your coat next to someone who has it, or even sharing bedclothes that had mites in them the night before. The physical contact required to contract scabies may of course be sexual, and scabies is more common among sexually active young people. However, other forms of physical contact, such as mothers hugging their children, is sufficient to spread the mites. Over time, close friends and relatives can contract it this way too. For this reason, scabies is not considered a sexually transmitted disease in the usual sense..

Scabies can be cured with a single application of an appropriate remedy. No need to miss work.

No, you should not continue to work. Scabies is extremely contagious. If you think it's embarrassing now, just wait until the entire workplace gets infected and they trace it back to you.
Be sure to wash yourself with the special soap the doc gave you, and be VERY thorough when cleaning your home and bedding.

Have you been checked out by a dermatologist? I wouldn't necessarily rule out a combination of dry skin (maybe from frequent washing), and staph or other bacterial infections. Try something like Aveeno in the meantime and see if that helps. But definitely see a derma guy to get a more solid diagnosis.

I think if you are a prostitute, it would be fine for you to work, if your a medical person who has contact with lots of people, I would take off a day or two until it is cleared up.

Uh, only if you work from home and you work alone. They are pretty contagious!
Suppose you might choose to go to work if you really hate your coworkers...but I wouldn't suggest such a thing!
