Okay, answer this. Is it worth letting him go barefoot like his friend when you get a call saying he needs stitches in his foot because he stepped on something sharp? What about the fact of all the bacteria on the ground? Do you want him in a public bathroom barefoot?
My son is ten and I know how important it is for them to be cool and do what their friends do, but we are still their paren't's and we have to make decisions they arent' always going to like.
(Wow, that's the first time I've sounded really like a parent).
Anyway, you will always make the best decisions for your kids, even if we make mistakes along the way.
My son adds, he doesn't agree that just because his friend isn't wearing any shoes that he shouldn't either because there are some stores that might kick you out because you have none on.

I don't know if there is any severe danger in not wearing shoes. I think it's cool, as long as he washes his grubby toes before he crawls in bed or on the couch.
I guess it would be a problem if the parking lot is really hot, if there is broken glass on the ground, any kind of sharp object, chewing gum, or diseases. But I used to go everywhere barefooted, I've stepped on nails (followed by tetanus shots!) and everything. It didn't kill me.
If you don't mind it, it's not wrong. Now if he defied you and told you NO I'M NOT WEARING SHOES and you're a pushover, that might be a different issue.

No. Chances are if you made him wear shoes, he would have taken them off as soon as he got out of your sight. However, I'm surprised shoes weren't required where they went. Most stores won't allowed anyone to come in barefoot.

Yes. IF her son decided to start peeing in the streets and going with out pants would you allow that to if your son wanted to? There is a reason most places say NO shirt , no shoes , no service. If the kid is 5 or older then it just isn't cute anymore.

That's a wierd family! My moms friend from college once took me and my brother 2 Walmart. It wasn't until he got out of the car that i realized he was barefoot. It horrified me completely! The manager felt so bad, he practically offered him free shoes!!
One of my most humiliating moments.....

Barefoot is fine. Let him keep doing it.
PS. Please stop asking this same question. I'm sorry if you don't receive the answers you want. That's life. You ask opinions and you often get some you don't like or agree with.

I'm going to say you were wrong, I just know I wouldn't have let my son walk anywhere where people spit, urinate, and other things on the ground. The bottom of shoes are so nasty and that's why we have them so our feet don't get dirty like the bottom of a shoe.

I would definitely recommend shoes. U mite never know, what type of stuff U find on the floor. My lil' brother cut his foot from a sharp glass on the road. Don't take the risk, sweetie.

well i can tell you this...... it's highly unlikely they went to the mall. Mall's have a policy .. no shirt no shoes no service. They wouldn't be allowed in. Personally I wouldn't allow my 10 year old to the mall without an adult.
