Duality is a mortal way of understanding how the world works, a very simplistic view by the way, and it is fairly knew. Most ancient pre-Judeo-Christian times didn't believe in any form of duality. They didn't see the world in terms of black and white, good and evil like that. They knew that life was way more complicated than that and to pigeonhole things in categories like that was simplistic at best, dangerous at worst.

It's also comforting and safe. In a dualistic tradition you have everything laid out right there for you, clean cut. Things are arranged according to whether they are "good" or "bad". You don't have to question anything, you don't have to think, you don't have to look any deeper. Everything is already laid out right there for you and you don't have to do any of the work, or even worse go searching and find that what you thought was "good" may actually not be as saintly as you think and vice versa. I can see the appeal of living in a box like that, sorta...it is comforting to the fearful, and it would appeal to the lazy since they don't have to do any work. Somebody already did it for them.

Personally I think the whole idea of duality is just outdated, if it ever did apply to the world. Which it doesn't. The world, and life period, doesn't work in black and white like that. It's all shades of grey...some shades of grey a bit darker or lighter than others, but it's all grey.

Who knows? I always figured non-duality and then found a religion that teaches it, so I'm set.

Some people want to be able to justify a "cruel" world by dividing it into good and evil. They feel better knowing there are absolutes on boths ends and that they have the free will to choose one or the other.

Newton- for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. One can not exist without the other. So one is no better, or worst than the other. Only necessary for the other to exist!
EQUAL-Opposite...

This question is so deep that it's unanswerable, because it doesn't make any sense.
