No they're not. Don't listen to people who say that carbs are bad. They are wrong, Low carb diets can make you fat. You need them to fuel muscle. Beans have good protein which is good for you. Beans are a great source of good protein and HDL's. Now, what you put in your chili might be the bad part or what you eat with the beans. Now that might be up for questions.

No. Beans are also protein but they don't have as many pitfalls as red meat. There could be other fattening things in the chili though.
