You really think we would run out of dogs if people didn't breed???? Do you know how many dogs are put to sleep every day because there are too many??? Sure, there are responsible breeders out there who don't inbreed the dogs and breed "quality" dogs. But I still can't stand puppy after puppy being bought from these breeders when there are SO many dogs in shelters waiting to be adopted. Then there are the puppy mill/backyard breeders who care only about money and breed dogs, many who are very sick because they have very little to no veterinary care, from the time they come into heat until they die. In my opinion, these people's punishment should be to live the way they treat the dogs they torture day in and out...

It is wrong when done badly or done for the money. The only reason to breed is to improve the breed. Very few dogs out of all born in a certain breed qualify for that.
It seems here that many people think it is easy and a good way to make money. It sure is not if it is done correctly!!!!!!!

And health clearances MUST be done and there are some for EVERY breed. Even the top show dog is no good to it's breed if it is unhealthy!!

What farm are you at? Breeding can be done to much but it is ok as long as the place isn't like a puppy mill. Most of the people that will breed their animals will make sure they go to a good home where they will be loved until the end.

backyard breeding in dogs is never really good, unless the breeder is a professional and then it's not really 'backyard' anymore...

my dog is a pitbull/lab mix and while shes very sweet and i love her to death, she has major dog agression and she has other behavioral issues that have one way or another come from how she was raised by the breeder, along with bad genetics from the parents (though those arent behavioral)

So in short, I'd have to say that only professional breeders should be legally allowed to breed dogs =)

and better yet, people shouldn't buy from breeders..they should hit up the humane society first.

If you are doing the proper testing to make sure your breeding stock is healthy and has no hip displasia and other genetic things wrong. And you are finding good homes for your puppies and breeding recognized breeds of dog and not "desinger dogs" aka MUTTS then I have o problem with it.
My best friend breeds dashunds one of her dogs was at the Westminister dog show. I have problem that she breeds puppys.
She gets good money for them and get really good homes. If the person can not keep the dog they can give them back to her. She will take one back no questions.
If you are breeding to make money and breeding mutts I have a huuge problem as you can get small mixed breeds for cheap at any animal shelter.

By 'breeder' do you mean the term as it applies to humans who have children, or to humans who breed animals?

As for your ...I hesitate to say.. "point": Breeding (in either case) is not "rong".

!) "Breeding" has nothing to do with running "out of animals". It may have some to do with MAINTAINING certain species due to man-caused environmental issues, but once again- not "rong". In the case of household animal breeding, it has to do with maintaining the bloodline- once again, not "rong".

2) In the case of animal breeding, is IS illegal to over-breed. This constitutes abuse.

3) Address your hate issues. Focus that energy toward animal husbandry (look it up) law enforcement, if you are indeed whining on about animals breeding, or join Zero Population Growth if you're whining about human breeding. Though I highly doubt you'll do it, seeing as you're too lazy to address your comprehension and education as it is.

Don't hate them as you know we need some breeders... If they breed too much though tell them your feelings and explain why to slow down or stop for a while... So many dogs in shelters... We need only serious breeders to do it for a while... I'll add my ignore "fightingpit", he/she is drowning in their own hate...

Sounds like the breeding has gotten into the house, inbreeding. Does your brother play a banjo?

I think breeding is ok but as long as you leave it to the pros. Knowen as some one that is breeding great dogs and does not alow them to end up in a shelter!

i think there should be a limit. i can't stand watching people walk out of mall pet shops with puppy's from the mill. there are plenty of dogs in shelters that are put to sleep because there are7 dogs for every human but not all of us can keep one.
