You are acting as a conductor or an extension of your antenna. Aluminum foil used on the end of one or both antenna helps with reception.

because your body acts as a grounded extention of the anntena wire
try running the anntena wire outside a window or hook a rf converter use to hook cable to older tv's and see if that doesn't do the trick
