So sorry to hear about your dog. It's sad to lose a pet in such a tragic way, but find comfort in knowing you provided a safe and loving home for an animal that someone abandoned to a shelter. Why not go back to the shelter and adopt another little angel, rather than looking here? I'm sure ther is a shelter in your area with a dog that needs you!

I do not I am afraid, but I am SO SORRY about your loss. Try going back to your local shelter, as you know you can get a great dog there and save it's live as well. Again, I am terribly sorry for your loss.

My heart goes out to you. Try Petfinder.com and enter the specific preferences you want to find a dog in your area that needs a good, safe home with a loving family.
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sorry to hear that your friend has passed on.
If you look in your local Yellow Pages there are likely several rescue/shelter/SPCA/Humane Societies or dog pounds in your area.
That said, its all in one place if you'd like to look online - go to PetFinder.com - you can search by breed, organization or area of the country.
Its a fantastic reference for someone who may be looking for a new family member, and you can go home with your new pet secure in the knowledge that you might have saved his/her life.
Check it out, and happy friend-finding!
