I can name two books that are about Japanese culture for children. Everybody Cooks Rice (Scholastic books) is about a variety of cultures and how they are all connected by rice. It enters a Japanese home. Also, Baseball Saved Us (also Scholastic) is a beautiful story about the camps in Califirnia during WWII, and a small boy's journey to find himself through all the confusion. he helps his Japanese peers remember childhood through baseball. Both are excellent children's books.
